[ Summary ] The assessment process for nutritional management of elderly patients receiving dialysis therapy is an important step in their treatment. Reduced food intake and decreased physical functions due to aging must be deal with. Factors related to kidney diseases and dialysis therapy may effect conditions which lead to malnutrition, and protein-energy wasting (PEW) syndrome. PEW increases the risk of deterioration of daily activity levels and poor prognoses. In terms of prevention of occurrence and development of malnutrition, the evaluation of patients' nutritional status is essential. However, this condition cannot be diagnosed fully by a single method to assess patients' nutritional status. Therefore, we must use a variety of methods to evaluate patient health. By utilizing appropriate nutritional assessment for elderly dialysis patients, we may be able to prevent sarcopenia, locomotive syndrome, and future frailty issues.
