| [ Summary ] | Patient centered care is a core component of quality healthcare; it is defined as an approach to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of healthcare that is grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships among healthcare providers, patients, and families. Patient centered care is most needed for dialysis patients, but its use is limited. The goal of treatment for elderly dialysis patients is to improve quality of life and lessen the burden of treatment, rather than improve the survival rate. Assisted peritoneal dialysis is a modality that is in keeping with the concept of patient centered care; it can improve quality of life for elderly dialysis patients. | |
