[ Summary ] | According to the 2014 report from the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy, the five-year survival rate for dialysis patients is approximately 60 %, while the rate for peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis is 57.1 patient-months per episode. Among the participants in the Peritoneal Dialysis Registry-Cohort study, patients ≥ 65 years with the number of 113, possess a five-year survival rate of 67.5%. Conversely, in other prominent registries of patients abroad, undergoing HD or PD, the five-year survival rate is 40-50 % or 50-60 %, respectively. Whether PD is superior to HD regarding prognosis in elderly patients is still controversial. Additionally, social factors may have some impact on the cause of death. |
