[ Summary ] Higher levels of job satisfaction lead to higher levels of worker performance. Studies show that high job satisfaction among nurses is associated with lower mortality rate and higher levels of patient satisfaction. A dialysis unit is a stressful environment;however, dialysis nurses' job satisfaction is higher and job stress is lower compared to those of nurses in other units in a hospital. The high perceived job satisfaction of dialysis nurses may be attributed to multidisciplinary practice, higher autonomy, and patient trust. Organizational level strategies targeted at facilitating a better workplace environment, improving the nurse-physician relationship, promoting staff education, establishing an evidence-based objective staff evaluation system, and broadening autonomy will increase job satisfaction and performance.
