[ Summary ] Cinacalcet has came to be recognized as a drug which is indispensable for CKD-MBD treatment, along with active vitamin D preparations and phosphate binders. Although side effects such as a digestive tract symptoms and hypocalcemia has been observed, it is understood that side effects may be held in check well by treatment regimens. However, cases thought to be refractory to cinacalcet have been observed. The particularly refractory properties of cinacalcet, are the subject of a great deal of vital research. It is hoped that next-generation drugs will produce greater positive effects with decreased adverse side effects. These drugs are currently under development in Japan.
