[ Summary ] This article outlines management issues facing the provision of dialysis, particularly hemodialysis in acute care settings. Relevant issues, such as the many occupations involved, frequent patient turnover, difficulties settling differences between occupations, and problems with human-machine interfaces are discussed. The data indicate problems specific to acute care institutions, as well as many new problems common to all types of medical institutions. These problems are a result of the widespread use of healthcare data devices and human skills. Healthcare professionals, unable to solve these problems on their own, require outside assessments and recommendations.
