[ Summary ] |
Chronic dialysis is well known to have a great impact on sudden cardiac death. Fluctuant K, Ca, or pH, and sympathetic nerve over-activity are thought to play an important role in the onset of fatal arrhythmic events such as ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation, and consequently, sudden death. Recently, two specific arrhythmic syndromes, namely the long QT-interval and Brugada syndromes, have been noted as causes of sudden cardiac death in the general population. Herein, we provide an overview of the association of the syndromes with sudden cardiac death in dialysis patients. |
