[ Summary ] Sarcopenia is a primary concern in geriatric medicine and dialysis therapy. Although the incidence of sarcopenia in dialysis patients is unknown, chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder along with malnutrition due to chronic kidney disease and dialysis therapy appear to be pathogenic for sarcopenia. The pathological definition of sarcopenia is loss of both skeletal muscle mass and muscle strength or physical function. For early detection, it is necessary to perform screening for physical deconditioning and muscle weakness by measuring grip strength and gait speed. It is important to diagnose latent sarcopenia patients and to perform preventive intervention with exercise therapy to prevent advanced-stage sarcopenia.
