[ Summary ] Subjective symptoms are frequently observed in dialysis patients with MIA (malnutrition, inflammation, and atherosclerosis) syndrome. One of these symptoms is fatigue, with an incidence of 60-97 %. In this study, we quantified fatigue in dialysis patients by using a questionnaire and evaluated the results based on diagnostic criteria for chronic fatigue syndrome because an accurate index of clinical fatigue has not been established thus far. Based on the fatigue scores obtained by using this method, we report the fatigue status of Japanese hemodialysis and dialysis patients. In addition, we examined their cardiovascular disease risk, convalescence, association with anemia improvement, and refractoriness to erythropoietin preparations.
