[ Summary ] Fatigue is a major issue worldwide ; however, the etiology is unclear. Fatigue can be a risk factor associated with various diseases if not treated. Fatigue levels are frequently assessed through self-reporting of feelings of fatigue, as well as physiological and biochemical testing. Methods of assessing fatigue have not been fully established. It is necessary to use particular methods appropriate to the individuals state of fatigue. There are two types of fatigue, pathological and nonpathological, with different causes. It is important to determine if medical treatment is necessary or not. However, at present, treatments for fatigue are limited. New anti-fatigue treatments based on scientific evidence must be developed.
