[ Summary ] Fatigue symptom is regarded as a predictive factor of various illnesses and is one of the most common complaints of patients. The proportion of persons who experience chronic fatigue for more than 6 months is high in modern Japan. About half of this population experiences fatigue every day of their lives. Early coping is important from the viewpoint of reducing medical expenses, and development of a method for evaluating fatigue that allows for early prevention and detection can lead to disease prevention. We quantified fatigue by using a questionnaire. However, evaluation of disease-specific fatigue symptom is necessary in the future. In recent years, various trials have been conducted to measure fatigue by using minimally invasive methods. In the future, measurement of biomarkers of fatigue can be expected from the developments in imaging modalities that use blood and saliva specimens.
