[ Summary ] Blood stream infection is the most common complication associated with hemodialysis, whereas peritonitis is the most common condition associated with peritoneal dialysis. Tuberculosis, especially pulmonary tuberculosis, should be a concern. Influenza vaccines and pneumococcal vaccines should be considered for elderly hemodialysis patients. Hepatitis B vaccines should also be considered for uninfected and/or unvaccinated patients.
