[ Summary ] Dementia is currently experienced in 15 % of patients over 65 and is positioned to be considered a "common disease". There are many cases of dementia seen in dialysis patients. Medical staffs involved in dialysis therapy often notice the early onset of dementia. Introduction of early treatment is important. To detect early stage dementia, we must gather information from families and caregivers. We must also gather information from medical staff members. We must be aware of the transitional indications such as loss of interest in personal appearance observed in the examination room. For a screening test which is easy and quick, a screening device using a touch-screen type computer the forgetfulness consultation program by Nihon Kohden Co. was used. Drug treatment for core symptoms and behavioral psychiatric symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are also discussed.
