[ Summary ] A growing number of elderly patients receive dialysis therapy in Japan.
Performing dialysis or treating a single disease dose not often improve the overall condition of elderly patients.
Elderly patients experience many problems. Those difficulties, characterized by multi-morbidity conditions, include declines in cognitive ability and daily functions, as well as social ploblems.
Because of these factors, it is useful to use CGA to evaluate not only disease but also physical, psychological and social functions.
It is important that proper evaluating methods be used in ways which are suitable for individual medical facilities.
All medical staff members share both the results from and problems associated with CGA.
Countermeasures for problems resulting from CGA may improve the prognoses and quality of life for these patients.
