[ Summary ] A variety of dietary factors have been studied in relation to cancer. Overall, dietary fat, fruits, vegetable, and fiber have not consistently been shown to affect cancer risk. Intake of other nutrients, particularly certain micronutrients, may offer a degree of protection against certain malignancies. Excess alcohol consumption increases the risk of multiple cancers. The ministry of Health, Labour and Walfare of Japan suggests a diet to prevent cancer in the guidelines termed "Healthy Japan 21". Since studies on diets to promote cancer prevention in dialysis patients are scarce, the same guidelines as those for the general population should be also applied to dialysis patients.
