[ Summary ] Cancer occurs in association with cell growth as a result of exposure to environmental factors such as chronic inflammation, carcinogens, or viral infections. Genomic aberrations in a variety of cancers are important independent predictors of disease progression and survival. Recent scientific discoveries resulting from the applications of array CGHs and next generation DNA sequencing technologies highlight the striking impact of the above causitive factors. We outline the genomic profiling of renal cell carcinoma in patients with end-stage renal disease.
