[ Summary ] Since revision of the insurance reimbursement system in 2012, the number of patients receiving I-HDF treatment has increased. I-HDF is recognized as a valid online HDF therapy or recently been introduced for the purpose of improving peripheral circulation, plasma renewal enhancement or suppression of membrane fouling. Dialysis machines capable of performing in the I-HDF mode have been developed, with improved levels of safety. As a result, cleared space, defined as nomalized solure removal amount, is increased compared to results obtained with HD. Reduction in the number of medical care treatments and stability of blood pressure have also been reported. The clinical effectiveness of I-HDF is expected because it employs different mechanisms from those used in high-volume pre-dilution online HDF. The efficacy of I-HDF will be elucidated in the future through accumulation of clinical data.
