[ Summary ] |
Dialysis treatment has become prevalent for the elderly, particularly for patients aged 75 years or older. Because of the progress being made in peritoneal dialysis (PD) treatment elderly patients have excellent outcomes even with multiple comorbid conditions. PD is a treatment method which should be considered as the first choice for introducing dialysis in elderly patients. The regional prevalence of PD has a close relation to the numbers of dialysis centers, nephrologists and home-visit nursing care centers. Adequate information and education are necessary for the use of PD in individual areas in Japan. |
