[ Summary ] HHD patients must use the dialysis and RO devices which are used in facilities at home, because specialized equipment for home hemodialysis is not available in Japan. Currently, most dialysis devices are automated, making their use simple and easy. However, HHD training is still required for 2-4 months in dialysis facilities. When we asked our HHD patients about their use of HHD devices, it was revealed that they experienced a great deal of inconvenience. Devices should be light and compact with energy saving features, and should produce less noise. Simple operation is necessary with simpler blood lines and dialyzer circuits. In addition, immediate communication with care providers should be available when problems arise. Automatic transmission of data is necessary to ensure the safety of patients.
