[ Summary ] Malnutrition in dialysis patients exacerbates cardiovascular disease, interacting with inflammation and atherosclerosis, influencing prognoses. Malnutrition is common in older dialysis patients. This is because they often experience a plethora of physical and mental disturbances, as well as social problems. Most dialysis patients with diabetes have advanced small or large vessel vascular disease. Therefore, the role of rigorous control of blood sugar is still controversial for older dialysis patients. Hypoglycemia should at least be avoided. Moderate glycemic control, with treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia, should be considered to maintain physical and mental condition, and to achieve improvements in prognoses.
