[ Summary ] Presently, approximately half of all hemodialysis patients receive treatment due to diabetic nephropathy. The types of dialysis treatment implemented for these patients are considered to be adequate. Diabetic patients experience a number of complications such as cardiovascular conditions, and peripheral artery disease. Therefore, measures to improve the state of diabetic hemodialysis patients must be taken. The Japanese Society for Dialysis Treatment recently published new guidelines for maintenance hemodialysis treatment. Several factors are vital in providing treatment for these patients. Salient points in regard to provision of therapy for diabetic patients are presented.
