[ Summary ] | As our population ages, the number of elderly dialysis patients increases yearly. Societal changes have resulted in a rise in the number of elderly people living alone, creating an ongoing need for nursing facilities. However, few such facilities accept dialysis patients. In addition to the physical, emotional, and environmental changes experienced by the elderly, dietary and fluid restrictions associated with dialysis put elderly patients at risk of malnutrition. Thus, nursing care, including nutritional management, is extremely important for these patients. This article describes the nutritional management support system established between homes for the elderly caring for those who require special care and hospitals associated with our institution. |
