[ Summary ] The first step in selecting renal replacement therapy is changing misconceptions patient may have and provide adequate knowledge. Patient education from the early stages can reduce anxiety and depression and make it easier for them to accept dialysis therapy in the induction phase.
It is desirable that both patients and physicians be involved in the modality selection process (Shared Decision Making).
In our hospital, nurses explain dialysis modalities. At that time, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis selection ratios are approximately. After initiation, many patients wants to change dialysis modalities. Therefore, continuous education and information is needed. It is important to create universal guidance tools and systems for CKD patient education.
