[ Summary ] Various metabolic disorders, such as hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, metabolic acidosis, and accumulation of uremic toxins, develop with the deterioration of renal function associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). These disorders are closely related to the onset of cardiovascular disease and the progression of CKD. It is important to manage these problems appropriately from the early stages. In order to treat these problems, a number of effective pharmacotherapies have been proposed. It is also known that there are detrimental effects induced by these agents. We must recognize that particular disadvantages may be produced by these treatments.
