[ Summary ] Hemodiafiltration (HDF) requires dialysates and substitution fluids. However, without exceptional cases, dialysis fluids can be used in place of substitution fluids. In cases involving on-line HDF, dialysis fluids and substitution fluids are of the same composition, because substitution fluids are composed of partly fresh ultra-pure dialysis fluids. It is easy for on-line HDF to do large volumes of fluid replacement. However, actual dialysis fluid flow rates (A-QD) are reduced relative to substitution fluid flow rates (QSF). Less than 250 mL/min of A-QD, should be considered to achieve proper electrolyte balance.
