[ Summary ] End-stage kidney disease patient responsiveness to erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESAs) has attracted attention for its association with mortality. Interestingly it has been reported that requsite ESA dosage is more closely associated with mortality, especially cardiovascular related mortality, than hemoglobin levels. There is a potential for mechanisms related to ESA resistance to play roles in the progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
