[ Summary ] Dialysis is provided by teams of caregivers. The role of dietitians is vital in providing care for dialysis patients. It is essential for dietitians to be properly trained in providing care to these patients. The dialysis care team must communicate adequately with each other, the patients and the patients’ families. There is generally only one dietician available per care facility so, the responsibility of providing proper nutrition to all these patients falls to that one individual. Because of this fact, dieticians have little opportunity to learn from their predecessors. On the job training of dieticians who provide care for dialysis patients is discussed.
