[ Summary ] The "Clinical Practice Guidelines for CKD-MBD", which were published by the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy in 2012, deal with not only hemodialysis (HD) patients, but also with patients receiving peritoneal dialysis (PD). In relation to phosphorus, avoidance of hyperphosphatemia is important to lessen the risk of cardiovascular incidents. Calcium levels must be properly maintained to avoid hypocalcemia, lessening the risk of cardiovascular incidents and of secondary hyperparathyroidism. The use of high-calcium peritoneal dialysates is encouraged for PD patients with residual kidney functions.
