[ Summary ] Cinacalcet reduces the number of patients requiring surgical treatment for secondary hyperparathyroidism and adds to the expansion of medical treatment options. Cinacalcet is shown to inhibit excessive parathyroid gland cell proliferation experienced with renal failure in clinical conditions. In addition, cinacalcet has been shown to inhibit the onset of high metabolic turnover type osteopathia associated with secondary hyperparathyroidism. It seems to be a good option to decide on PTX if we cannot control PTH even after administration of cinacalcet for an extended period of time. At this time we cannot conclude how long this period should be.
