[ Summary ] Excessive dietary intake of energy leads to lifestyle related diseases, especially obesity. Improvements in the prognoses for these patients will be observed with improvements in their BMI. Excessive intake of water by these patients will lead to water retention, resulting in interdialytic weight gain. Because of this, patients must be counseled on the need for reduced salt intake. They also need to be aware of the fact that excessive intake of potassium may lead to a risk of arrhythmia and cardiac arrest. Both dialysis patients and care givers need to recognize the importance of the patients' contribution to their own health with proper diet.
