[ Summary ] The most important lifestyle that pays attention is dietary food intake and lack of exercise in dialysis patients. Dialysis patients are likely to take insufficient energy and protein intakes. Exercise is not regularly conducted, and the count of walking step becomes lesser. These changes of lifestyle may result in reduced skeletal muscle mass and accumulated visceral fat mass volume. In addition, both malnutrition and lack of exercise increase the risk of falls and bone fracture, and also associate with the progression of depressive mode and dementia. Thus, it is important to detect early for the potential risk of malnutrition and lack of exercise, and then afford preventive action against changes of lifestyle especially in a high-risk population such as elderly patients. In middle-aged patients without any evidence for comorbidity, it is important to take adequate dietary salt and phosphorous and exercise regularly for the prevention of progression of cardiovascular disease.
