[ Summary ] Quality of life (QOL) is major goal of medical treatment and research for CKD patients. However, the term QOL requires full definition because there are many aspects to the term QOL. Health related QOL measurements are divided into two categories. One is preference-based measurement (EQ5D, HUI etc.) and the other is conducted with profile instruments.
Profile instruments include general scales (SF-36, SIP, NHP, WHOQOL etc.) and disease specific measurements (KDQOLTM etc.).
Home dialysis requires few outpatient treatments. On the other hand, PD treatment techniques may be harmful to some patients’ QOL, including their mental health. We must investigate patients based outcomes in dialysis treatment to help their decision making.
