[ Summary ] New hemodialysis patients' probability of survival has improved, in spite of the aging of the new patient population and an increase in the number of diabetic nephropathy patients. However these patients' psychological problems have not been disappeared. Peer support from other patients who have struggled against these diseases may reduce the discomfort and stress they experience. We offer group cooking classes which offer an opportunity for patients to have meals together and exchange information concerning their diseases. The purpose of these meetings is so patients may be able to develop the ability to manage the experience of life long dialysis treatment. Registered dietitians are especially valuable in providing vital information, vital to long range care.
