| [ Summary ] | We established the Tokyo Dialysis Network for Disasters to aid cooperation between dialysis facilities in emergency situations. Our activities consisted of organizing a web campaign site, listing mailing adresses, conducting lectures, and providing training to maintain communications between dialysis facilities. During the mass evacuation of dialysis patients from Iwaki City after the Tohoku Earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant meltdown, this network demonstrated the capabilities of the pre-established communication system in organizing acceptance of dialysis patients to facilities in Tokyo. We address the importance of preparing communication systems in advance and training for disasters. |
