[ Summary ] Fukushima prefecture suffered from a disaster, due to a nuclear plant meltdown, which was due to the historical tsunami after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2001. Those combined disasters have made this area difficult to revive, with the increasing number of refugees reaching up to 80,000 3 months after the disaster. This paper reviews the social conditions in Fukushima prefecture in the nine month period after the disaster. It also reports on recent actions taken by the Fukushima government to protect residents from possible radiation induced health complications.
