[ Summary ] Dietary treatment is a fundamental issue in the management of diabetic dialysis patients. As the same manner for non-diabetic dialysis patients, control of salt, water and potassium intake are vital in providing dietary treatment for diabetic dialysis patients. Consideration of adequate percentage intake of three major nutrients, carbohydrates, proteins and fats, is essential. Optimal energy intake adjusted to individual physical activity levels, avoiding excessive intake of protein and proper intake of fats should be considered. In the case of poor blood glucose control, administrations of insulin or hypoglycemic agents is necessary. Registered dietitians are expected to play a role in nutritional assessment and proposals for practical methods to provide dietary treatment for these patients.
