| [ Summary ] | Although several classes of oral hypoglycemic agents have been available, special attention should be paid when used in diabetic patients with advanced kidney disease. In diabetic patients undergoing dialysis, several classes of oral hypoglycemic agents are contraindicated；therefore, only α-glucosidase inhibitors and glinides have been selected in Japan. Recently, dipeptidyl-peptidase 4 inhibitors have become available even in dialysis patients and preliminary studies demonstrated the efficacy and safety of this brand-new drug. | |
