[ Summary ] Intensive glycemic control is one of the most effective therapeutic management techniques for prevention or remission of albuminuria or chronic kidney disease (CKD)in patients in the relatively early stages of diabetes. However, this strategy is not sufficient to ameliorate advanced CKD or prolong the lives of end-stage renal disease patients with advanced nephropathy. Further investigations are required to improve the prognoses of diabetic patients with advanced nephropathy.
