[ Summary ] When treating chronic kidney disease, dietary treatment must be provided in respect to the patient's lifestyle in order to provide proper initiation and continuation of therapy. As the condition of the patient advances subtle changes must be made in dietary regimens. The support of the patient's family is necessary for dietary treatment to be effective. Dietary instruction at our hospital includes instruction in food preparation. The case of a patient who received dietary instruction from the initiation of dialysis through an extended treatment period is presented. This case illustrates the importance of the patient's family's cooperation in dietary monitoring and providing pertinent information to medical professionals.
