[ Summary ] Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a risk factor for cognitive impairment. Cognitive impairment of CKD patients strongly correlates with stroke and anemia. The rates of prevalence for cognitive impairment of Japanese dialysis patients are the following : 6.8 % in 60-74 years old, 23.5 % in 75-89 years old, and 43.4 % in those over 90. These statistics strongly correlate to those for cerebral vascular diseases. The incidence of cognitive impairment in long term Japanese dialysis patients is lower than that for short term dialysis patients.
