[ Summary ] Acute phase reactant markers such as CRP, cytokines and acute phase proteins are commonly used for clinical diagnosis of infection.
Specific antibodies, antigens and genetic tests for bacteria and virus infections are also widely used.
New biomarkers for sepsis such as procalcitonin and mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin are good predictors to identify presence and severity of infection and to develop prognoses for bacterial infection and sepsis.
