[ Summary ] In Japan, the number of dialysis patients is increasing yearly many patients are elderly and have physical disabilities. In the case of dialysis patients with physical disabilities, rehabilitation may reduce their physical disabilities and improve ADL. In terms of physical disabilities, rehabilitation may be performed much as it is for non-dialysis patients. There are various disease characteristics which deserve consideration. Since dialysis patients experience general fatigue, the problem of providing adequate exercise time exists. This tends to make it difficult to carry out rehabilitation routines. In addition, it is often difficult to transfer hemodialysis patients to other hospitals for rehabilitation.
