[ Summary ] Dialysis patients have extremely decreased exercise tolerance resulting in impaired quality of life (QOL). Decreased exercise tolerance has been shown to be an independent predictor of long term survival. Therefore, in the management of dialysis patients, both enhancing exercise tolerance and improving long term prognosis are important therapeutic targets. Although it has virtually been established that exercise training improves exercise tolerance, QOL, and cardiovascular disease risk factors in dialysis patients, there is paucity of data on cardiac rehabilitation/exercise training in dialysis patients with cardiac disease complications. The efficacy, safety and practical considerations of cardiac rehabilitation/exercise training for dialysis patients with cardiac disease are discussed.
