[ Summary ] The existence of regional differences in dialysis treatment has been known for some time. The primary differences are in the selection of dialysis modalities, medical services provided, medical welfare systems, medical cost and medical record keeping in relation to dialysis treatment. The precise evaluation of regional differences is very difficult, because background factors in residential areas affect assessment. Recently, regional differences due to deterioration of regional administrations are becoming more wide spread. We are primarily concerned with those regional differences in dialysis treatment which may lead to problems with treatment.
