[ Summary ] Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is classified into the categories of dialysis therapy and kidney transplantation. Presently, we have various RRT modalities, such as hemodialysis (HD), peritoneal dialysis (PD), PD plus HD combined therapy, home hemodialysis(HHD)and living-donor or deceased-donor kidney transplantation. Recently, it has become accepted that chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients need early referral to nephrologists for timely initiation and appropriate choice of RRT. In order to improve patients' outcomes, medical staffs must provide appropriate information and practice individualized medical treatments for particular CKD patients.
