Theme How Should We Step up the Future Dialysis Therapy in Japan ?
Title Last resorts for dialysis patients
Publish Date 2010/07

[ Summary ] The number of disabled dialysis patients who have difficulties reaching dialysis clinics because of their low levels of ADL is increasing in Japan. Nevertheless, nursing homes seldom accept those patients because of the facilities' lack of medical services and limitation in health care-insurance. Research conducted by the Japanese Association of Dialysis Physicians in 2007 shows that more than half of these patients are hospitalized in small hospitals. Those small hospitals are facing difficulties under health care reforms being put in place. Therefore, the shortage of care facilities for those dialysis patients may become a social problem in the near future.
