[ Summary ] The primary factor influencing medical expenses is the state of the general economy in any particular country. In recent years, dialysis expenses covered under the national health system in Japan have been revised downward due to the increased number of patients and the poor state of the nation's economy. The result has been a reduction in health management available for these patients. On the other hand, a medical treatment fee system concerned with dialysis time division might produce improvements in the quality of medical care.
It is thought that in the near future decreases in unit prices of dialysis medical treatment costs will continue. We not only hope for improvements in costs but also for improvements in the quality of dialysis medical treatment. We propose an improved medical treatment fee system for patients and medical staffs.
