[ Summary ] Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasingly recognized as a global public health problem. CKD initiatives are urgently needed not only because CKD is a major causative factor for the increasing number of hemodialysis patients, but also because CKD is a serious risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. The achievement of these goals, requires an alliance of physicians, comedicals, government agencies and nephrology specialists, for early detection, clinical interaction and awareness of CKD.
