[ Summary ] The performance of dialyzers is strongly dependent on the flow of blood and dialysis fluids as well as membrane permeability. The design of dialyzer housings affects dialysis fluid flows. High performance dialyzers equipped with proper tapers, a full baffles and wave shaped hollow-fiber membranes have therefore been developed to improve dialysis fluid flow. In relation to these factor several types of dialyzers designed to enhance internal filtration are now commercially available. The performance of dialyzers is steadily increasing due to improved designs for housing structures and improvements in manufacturing technology.
