[ Summary ] It is common for many dialysis patients to suffer from various sleep disorders such as restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, periodic limb movement disorder and insomnia. It is also reported that depression frequently causes insomnia. Sleep disorders, which are highly common in dialysis patients, can be risk factors leading not only to depression but also diabetes mellitus. Sleep disorders also influence eating behavior, and as a result, there may be increase appetite, which is difficult and fail to control. Furthermore, sleep disorders decrease energy levels and general sense of well being. Treatment for dialysis patient's sleep disorders can restore not only the patient's vigor but also the proper control of food and water intake.
